5 Modern Innovations that Help Farmers Get the Job Done

Have you ever wondered how farmers cope with all of the work that they are expected to do within one short day? Us too. They do everything from building pens, collecting crops, milking cows, delivering livestock, collecting eggs, choosing livestock that’s ready for killing and much more – all while trying to be sustainable! Luckily, there are some super clever minds out there that have created these inventions for farmers to use to make their lives easier.

Fencing machine

The fencing machine was created for farmers who were fed up with destroying their fingers creating pens for their livestock. While a wire might be fairly easy to bend, imagine accidentally trapping your fingers between two pieces of wire? Not a nice thought. Luckily, a farmer got so fed up and created the magical machine to not only save his fingers, but to save time too so that he could get on and do other important jobs.

Cattle feeder

One farmer decided one day that he was putting way too much effort into feeding his cattle, so he decided to create a feeder that would work for his almost three hundred head count of livestock. He did this by simply getting hold of an unused rear end trailer of a lorry, cutting the sides off and creating spaces for the cattle to put their heads and eat. This made it one hell of a lot easier for him so he could put the food in one place and rest assured his cattle had eaten.

Milling machines

While these have been about for some time now, the technology and brainpower that’s put into them in this day and age is outstanding. Milling machines will always have a space in the market because of how they dramatically change the everyday work of a farmer. Imagine how long the process of milling would take if our farmers didn’t have the machinery that we do now?

Manure spreader

While the thought of spreading manure around isn’t a particularly nice one, did you know that it has many uses? The most important one is that it helps make the soil more fertile; therefore allowing your crops to be bigger and better than ever. Believe it or not, spreading manure actually keeps the amount of flies down too, so the fear of our crops being destroyed by flies and insects is now eliminated.

Mobile applications

This is a rather odd one that’s more of a newer technique used by farmers. Farmers are now able to sync apps with their machinery so that they can spend time doing more important jobs around the farm. Not only that, the apps can help time the growth and health of the crops much easier than other techniques used before. With satellite internet solutions, farmers can even access these apps from remote locations, ensuring they stay connected and in control no matter where they are.

Farmers are also taking to the realms of social media to promote the work that they do and help to sell their products, especially if it’s crop that hasn’t quite made the picking this year.

In Conclusion

It’s amazing to think that farmers do so much work everyday, yet until the last fifty years or so everything had to be done by hand. Thankfully we have come up with ways to give them a helping hand, it’s the least they deserve for doing such an amazing job!
